As the years go by and as the Club gathered strength in terms of membership and experience, it was felt that the Club should also look into the aspects of caring for the “non-sick and the non-handicapped”. In other words, members reckoned that some of the Club’s human and financial resources should be directed towards the education and development of the young men and women who are the “shapers” of the future of Hong Kong.
For years the Club has awarded annual scholarships to a second year student from the University of Science and Technology to study abroad. The scholarship covers fees and expenses incurred in attending universities overseas to broaden the horizons of the recipients. Education institutes attended recently include the University of Pennsylvania, the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria (Canada) and the University of California at Berkeley.
The Club chartered two Z-Clubs, the DGS Z-Club and the SPSS Z-Club, and two Golden Z-Clubs, the HKUST Golden Z-Club and the City U Golden Z-Club. For details, visit the “Z-/Golden Z-Club” section.
To encourage and give recognition to young women studying Business at the universities, the Club nominated undergraduates to participate in the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Award Scheme. Among those nominated, Gloria Lam of the University of Hong Kong won the 2003 District 17 Award, whilst Mandy Ng and Amy Lo of the same university won both the District Award and the International Award of the years 2003 and 2004 respectively. |
