WHO WE ARE?

Zonta International

One hundred years ago, a small group of pioneering women came together in Buffalo, New York with a vision to help all women realize greater equality while using their individual and collective expertise in service to their community.

Their vision became Zonta International, an organization that has grown to more than 29,000 members in 63 countries, working together to make gender equality a reality for women and girls worldwide.

8 November 2019 marks Zonta’s centennial anniversary (https://zonta100.org). Join us in our celebrations throughout the centennial biennium, beginning at our 2018 International Convention in Yokohama, Japan and ending with our 2020 International Convention in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Zonta Club of Hong Kong East

Zonta Club of Hong Kong East (ZHKE in short) was inaugurated on May 20, 1980 and was one of the seven charters in Hong Kong under Zonta International (www.zonta.org).  Members of ZHKE are a group of passionate, caring and dedicated lady leaders from diverse professions.  Core objectives of our club are to enhance women status via services and advocacy.  We believe by joining hands and providing our limited time and humble selves to serve the less fortunate in the community, we can find more meanings in our lives.

WHAT WE DO?

Service

Ever since the inception of ZCHKE, service projects have been run in accordance with the Zonta International Objectives to protect and uphold the status of women, to help the deprived and handicapped and those in need.

Advocacy

ZCHKE has been very active in supporting Joint Club Forums that advocate the protection of fundamental rights of women and the advancement of women’s status in community through taking up of public appointments or pursuing a political career. An Advocacy Committee was formally set up in October 2012.

ZCHKE engages its members towards public issues that are for the advancement of sexual equality. Submissions to government bodies have been made on various issues such as those supporting the guiding principles for reform, namely, clarity of the law, respect for sexual autonomy, the protective principle, and gender neutrality, and the recommendations in the consultation paper.

Fundraising

ZCHKE carries no administrative costs. Each member pays a subscription fee per year which go towards club meetings. Members of the Club take up different administrative roles and all funds raised go directly to the Charitable Trust Account towards service projects.

Every 4 or 5 years, ZCHKE raises funds, in the most cost effective way of holding Gala Premieres, to support its service projects. The first Fund Raising was the Gala Premiere of “The Coal Miners’ Daughter” with VP Zontian Anson Chan as the Fund Raising Chairman. Funds raised grow steadily throughout the years.

Funds have also been raised either on the Club basis collectively or by individuals as relief funds for world-wide natural disaster victims such as those of the Tsunami in South East Asia, the Earth Quake in Sichuan and the fiercest typhoon in the Philippines.

ZCHKE assists NGOs in organizing their fund-raising activities.
