The Advocacy Committee of the Zonta Club Hong Kong East launched a survey on Cyberbullying at Hong Kong Schools Q4 2021 at the local primary and secondary schools. 561 replies were received with Dr. Shirley Yeung, of Gratia Christian College and Associate Vice President of UNESCO HK Association, as the project master.
The survey result was announced on 26 February 2022 at an online meeting with a panel of psychologists, IT and educationists. Over forty participants took part including members and friends of Zonta clubs, dignitaries of Zonta International, students, teachers and social workers.
The panel speakers were Dr. Susanna Wong-Ip, Associate Professor School of Psychology, Gratia Christian College; Mr. Bernard Lee, IT Director of Hong Kong Gifted Education Teachers Association and Mr. Alex Hong, General Manager of iASPEC Services Limited.
Special guest of honor Mr. Mark Ritchie, President of Global Minnesota USA as well as experts from Indonesia and Myanmar shared their views.
The key proposed actions resulting from the survey are:
1. Educate teachers how to be more alert to students’ emotional changes with regards to the use of digital technologies.
2. Educate parents how to pay more attention to and respect the privacy of children.
3. Suggest the government to adopt policies to protect children.
The online meeting received good comments. Global views were shared for a survey done at local schools. It was commented that the meeting was very informative and more time should be allocated for future meetings.
It is suggested that sustainable work to advocate cyber bullying /cyber security be carried out for the wellbeing of students.
We welcome comments and sharing on cyberbullying for youths and school children to be communicated with us.
