Guest Speaker: Mr. Simon Mak

Topic: The Current State of Our Environmental Challenge

Abstract:
Mr. Simon Mak is the Chairman & CEO of Friends of the Earth (HK) Charity Limited (FoE) and a founder and chief executive of Ascent Partners, a corporate valuation and advisory firm based in Hong Kong. He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science. Mr. Mak is a CFA charter holder, a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and a member of the Institute of Public Accountant (MIPA). He has extensive experience in financial valuation and sustainability reporting. Besides his professional work, he is committed to fulfil his social duty. He serves in a variety of not-for-profit organizations and charities. He is the founding chairman of IP Commericialization Alliance, founding director of Lions Club of Hong Kong IFC, governor and honorary treasurer of Friends of the Earth (HK), member of UN ESCAP ESBN and committee members in a variety of chamber of commerce and trade organizations.

Our goals were to understand how we (Hong Kong as our home city) is faces a multitude of environmental challenges—from decarbonizing in face of the global threat of climate change to the protecting of the vulnerable countryside from encroaching development. Our audience were our members and it was an one off event. As a leading environmental advocate, FoE focuses on protecting our local and regional environment, offering equitable solutions to help create environmentally sustainable public policies, business practices and community lifestyles and engaging government, business and community to act responsibly. In our luncheon, Simon have brought us up to speed on the various local environmental issues, why they are important, and how we can tackle as a whole.
