Celebrating Excellence in Young Women’s Leadership
The Zonta Club of Hong Kong East is proud to announce that their nominee, Ms. Karly Leung, has been selected as one of the thirty-seven recipients of the prestigious 2025 Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award! Karly will represent Hong Kong among awardees from 25 countries and territories, each receiving a US$5,000 grant in recognition of their outstanding leadership and commitment to service. 🎊👏👏
About Ms. Karly Leung
A Form 5 student at St Paul’s Secondary School, Karly is passionate about science and dreams of becoming an occupational therapist. Her academic focus on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology reflects her dedication to using science for social good, particularly by supporting vulnerable groups such as children with developmental challenges and Hong Kong’s aging population.
Leadership and Service
Karly’s leadership journey is marked by her roles as a school prefect, President of the Community Youth Club, and Peer Group Counselling Assistant. She has:
- Mentored juniors and maintained school order as a prefect.
- Led 30 members in monthly social service projects, including charity sales and community campaigns.
- Facilitated workshops on stress management, helping new students adapt and thrive.
Her leadership is defined by empathy, collaboration, and a genuine desire to empower others.
Community and Global Engagement
Karly’s service extends beyond her school:
- As an Orbis Ambassador, she raised awareness and funds for global eye health.
- As a Mental Health Youth Ambassador, she led workshops to combat stigma and support mental well-being.
- She volunteered at Grantham Hospital, assisting elderly patients and learning the value of compassionate care.
Her international perspective is enriched by participation in global medical conferences and cultural exchanges, broadening her understanding of healthcare and social issues worldwide.
Championing Women and Girls
Karly is a vocal advocate for gender equality. Through the Girls Coding Explorer Programme and service-learning projects, she has challenged stereotypes and promoted opportunities for women in STEM and beyond. She also proposes practical solutions for women’s empowerment, such as flexible work policies and community programs tailored to women’s needs.
